Democracy and technology in India

Democracy and technology in India

India’s development curve is taking off as the world becomes awash with information technology. Computers, phones, and information devices will become cheaper, faster, smaller, more human friendly and more mobile every year. One can foresee a whole new paradigm, where technology could transform the delivery of public services, spread knowledge and educational access, and create far more direct and robust ways to provide entitlements to the poor. The reduction of knowledge asymmetry between the state and the people, would lay the foundation for a different kind of government.

    Hi Nandan,

I have been reading your book with great interest and one of the themes that I have been working on which is providing “Universal Financial Access”(UFA) with “Negative Use of Public Money” (NUPM)may help enable one of the key transformations you talk about. UTA ( Universal telecom access) with NUPM is already a reality.

You may remember me. We were together in IIT Mumbai. I spent a long time with Citibank, then Paypal,a year at Infosys, a year at Stanford as a Reuters Digital vision fellow. I am now in Delhi since 2004. Would love to connect to see if the dream of UFA with NUPM can be realized.

    Hi Sir,
I happened to read your book by chance, in the course of my preperation for admission to a B-school.My initial reason was to gather the data and ideas available in abudance, from the book, but gradually as i proceeded self-actualisation made me to think and understand your arguments and reasons behind the book.As a person i am immensely motivated by the book and it have been recommending it to my friends for reading, but above all i i now have developed a sense of belief that these ideas do have the potential in them to catapult India to the face of the world by revolutionizing our thinking prowess

    Hi,

On this topic of democracy and technology, I have a suggestion on how this could be put to work.
    Pls see http://groups.google.com.sg/group/gmail-labs-suggest-a-labs-feature/browse_thread/thread/e0033d1cfc23c431?hl=en

Its a suggestion to Google Labs for creating Virtual Countries which helps capture and co-ordinate activities of citizens/NGOs/communities. Please read and post your thoughts. Thanks.
